Samara Karoo Reserve spans over 27,000 hectares of pristine wilderness in the Great Karoo, one of the richest regions in terms of wildlife. Here you can spot over 60 mammal species, including the Big Five, and more than 225 bird species. The lodge hosts only 40 guests at a time to ensure the utmost privacy and exclusivity.

The property is located in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province, 53 kilometers southeast of Graaff-Reinet.

How to get there?

You can reach Samara Karoo Reserve with a 2.5-hour drive from Port Elizabeth to the reserve gate, followed by 15–18 kilometers of dirt road, depending on the lodge where you’ll be staying.

when to go?

The best time to visit the Great Karoo region is during the Southern Hemisphere summer, from October to May.
